Week Two: it's not all about the beer

If you were to tell me that Dublin would have the largest variety of the BEST foods before my arrival I probably would have laughed. Dublin is known for beer and Guinness pie, nothing else. However after being here for a couple weeks I have been pleasantly surprised. I am the biggest coffee and pastry freak ever and the Europeans really just know how to make us Americans happy. Except for the fact that they can't make an iced coffee. Luckily for me the weather has been about 60 degrees so hot coffee does just fine.
Cinnamon Cappuccino
This cinnamon cappuccino is the best thing to ever happen to me and unfortunately I did not drink it in Dublin but in Galway which is in the west. For those of you who want to travel to Ireland, Galway is definitely the place to go. Full of young adults, street entertainment and endless amounts of food. What could be better?
Murphy's Ice Cream
Back in Dublin, Murphy's Ice Cream is the place to go, located in what I would claim to be the hipster area of Dublin. I got cookie and sea salt ice cream and my friend, Sarina, got brown bread (gross, don't get it) and chocolate.
Beer Tasting at Guinness Factory
Now while Ireland is not ALL about the beer, it's a major part of their culture. Feeling obligated as a tourist, I visited the Guinness Factory right up the street from my apartment. First let me say it was nothing like I thought it would be. They must have renovated their interior in the last couple of years because what maybe should have stayed as is, is now filled with iPads and the latest technology. However we were able to pour our own pint of Guinness, taste test different brews in the most adorable little glasses and head to the gravity bar which gives you a 360 degree view of Dublin. Oh, and obviously buy touristy shirts as part of the experience.

Basically what I'm trying to say is don't come to Dublin for just the beer because there is so much more to offer...So come for the ice cream and cappuccinos instead.

  1. I have been to Dublin once before and I completely agree with you about the food! I thought I was going to have a tough time eating, but I really enjoyed everything I saw and ate. Seems like you are having a great time so far!
