Next stop: Prague

Dobry Den (hello)

By this time next week I will be in Prague. I can’t wait. I’ve enjoyed the pre course much more than I expected. While there was a lot of reading each night, I’m very thankful to get the opportunity to learn about Prague’s history and culture before going, so nothing is lost on me. Knowledge advances appreciation. I’m finding their culture to be very interesting and can’t wait to be immersed in it. The food, the architecture, the beer—all of it is exciting. In class we all presented on different culture topics and places in Prague to visit and be aware of; this made my want-to-do list very long. I’m nervous that 4 weeks won’t be enough! I know I’ll want to stay longer, but I guess it is just more reason to make every day an adventure to do or learn something new.

Learning their language is proving to be sort of fun! Although many Czechs apparently speak English, it always shows a sign of respect to speak in a countries language when you are there (or at least try to). Basic vocabulary will prove to be helpful, I’m sure.

Today I’ll be finishing up some packing, which is proving to be challenging. How does one pick just a small portion of things to bring for 5 weeks?! The lighter the better, I know, but that doesn’t make the decisions on which outfits to bring any easier.

In addition to packing, plans with family and friends for this week has my schedule jam-packed. Also, 4^th of July celebrations and moving out of my Drexel house will fill my time. So much to do in less than a week--I’m just too excited! I’ve waited for this trip since I started at Drexel when I had a study abroad meeting my freshman year to make sure I was on track. Originally I planned to go on the Rome program, but due to scheduling issues, I decided to do Prague. I’m happy about the change, even though initially I was very disappointed. Luckily, I will be visiting Rome still, so I am very much looking forward to that!
